Once Again - I'm taking suggestions/ideas

Unread post by imalazybiznatch »

I wanted to delete my last thread on this but since I do not have that administration or moderator power, I cannot. Anyways, this new thread will be for anyone to give me ideas for my newest map; "The Virus: Era of Survival"
Not all suggestions/ideas will be taken, and please do not post a reply obtaining any suggestion/idea that is just nonsense and will not fit the theme of my map.
Map Theme : Zombie Horror (Horror not necessary)

Map (Brief) Summary : It is now early Fall and you have recently heard news that the infection is getting closer to your area. After staying in one area for sometime as it is, you were planning on moving out soon anyway. You are only one of the few that have been discovered to be immune to this virus. You are also one of the few sole survivors of this bacterial pandemic apocalypse and only a certain number of humans are reported to be alive; roughly around 75,000. Once guarded by special virus control units, you have been separated by an ambush not too long ago and now remain roughly unprotected. Although you carry weapons yourself, you know you will not remain alive for too long unless you find cover. Luckily before the ambush, the virus control units told you that they were to escort you to a small facility. It is at this facility that scientists are trying to discover an antidote to the infection. Because you are one of the few that are immune, it is your mission to get to the facility alive to save humanity and find a cure to all that are infected.

This summary will be used for both the public version (still determining 6-8 players human; 1-2 players infected) and the single player version (1 human)
Spoiler:
The summary will be edited though and not exactly the same.
Map Anticipations/Spoilers :
  • Fully done realistic terrain (Fall Tile Set Will Be Used)
  • Fully done custom hero abilities
  • Custom doodads/destructibles to go with the "realistic" feeling
  • Fully done unit balancing (However; players will choose the overall difficulty in beginning of map: Easy/Hard/Insane

Now, single player version will have the same map display such as the terrain look and all that, however the game will be virtually different.
  • Same map summary objective
  • More Hero abilities
  • More custom items
  • More brief sub-missions/quests
  • Various new units (both human and infected types)
  • Maybe add some cinematic
Well, I will update/edit this thread as needed and also add or remove some things if any changes occur. What I have written so far is what I expect it to be although as my head races with ideas, things may change. I will provide screen shots of my work and to showoff my map through out my progress. This map I am expected to be done with and release to the public by the New Year; January 1st, 2009. If things work out, it may be released at an earlier date, and again, if things don't work out, it may be released at a later time period. Again if you have any suggestions/ideas, please let me hear it, but remember, I may not use them! Thank you.

I know one important thing that people always forget. They'd offer three difficulty modes in their maps, but only the easy mode is ever played because of lack of reward from the harder difficulties. So you have to make playing against the tougher guys worth it. For example by changing gold bounty/xp gain rates.

Xp rate example:
Easy - only half (50%) xp gained
Hard - full (100%) xp gained
Insane - double (200%) xp gained

The above specs will make Hard the default setting, Easy for newcomers who'll need a slower game anyway and Insane for pros who want to rush through the first levels faster.

For sure, in fact, I did that before in my last zombie map; but it seems that players still choose only easy! This is also why I'm doing the same map but in a single player version, because that way I believe players will actually have the time to play by themselves and actually try the harder difficulties. But thank you for the experience example; I will definitely add that as one of the perks for choosing a higher difficulty level.

They probably didn't know they would have gotten extra XP for choosing hard.

If you must, include the aspects of the difficulties in a loading screen since not many players will read the quests. :o

Sorry had to link somewhere incase idk =p

Yup - Had that actually noted in my little paper that I write all my ideas on. :P
Most of the stuff will actually be in the loading screen. Now it is up to the players to just read it.
I have also determined that the public version will be less "realistic" if I must say so that the single player version and I will tell you why. I want the public version to be able to be downloaded fast(er) by people instead of having a large file size due to the imported models/skins/icons/etc. Because of this, I will only have a few imported models (1-4) with a few imported icons (1-8) however, the single player version will be full out with nothing but imported models and things because in order to even get the single player version, you will have to download it from the internet; in which download is much faster. The sites I will post my maps at will most likely be; EpicWar.com / TheHiveWorkShop.com
Again, any other suggestions please reply. Also if you have made a suggestion/idea already, please edit your old post/reply, I will reread them, so no point in making many replies.
