what the heck is a .bak file?

what the heck is a .bak file?

hi there, i am a map maker and when i open any maps i find a very annoying .bak file with some maps. these files are very large (1/4 bigger) and i dont know what they do. Also, can i delete them? will it cause the map harm? anything at all? thanks.

.bak is a backup file extension, third party tools create them.
You can delete them, they do nothing.
