Map Deprotection

Unread post by Ian »

I'm trying to edit a map called Green Circle TD Mega, but I just can't get this to work. I went in and fixed the header at byte 516, yet MPQ editors still fail to open the map. Any suggestions?

EDIT: http://www.epicwar.com/maps/154188/

Reason: Replaced 7MB attachment (Holy shit!) with a link to epicwar.

war3map.w3i (imports) has the loading screen text (from map settings) in it? Woah!

I guess you will just have to recreate the map from scratch.

EDIT to clarify: war3map.wts is supposed to hold the loading screen next, yet I found it in war3map.w3i. And war3map.wts is completely empty. (The listfile gave it away.) And war3map.w3i also holds all the player names, which belong in war3map.wts as well.

Another find: The map uses some mdl files instead of the compressed version, mdx. Strange.

That's certainly not worth my time since all I want to do is disable losing. Might I ask what you did to figure this out, and any options to use this for my maps and ways to fix/reverse this?

Added more info to my first post.

I had no problems opening the mpq archive (tried both WinMPQ and MPQMaster), but deprotecting was unsuccessful. Can't export war3map.wts because it looks empty. (I found some of its contents hidden in war3map.w3i but I don't think I found all the strings.)

Well, my main thing is that I can't open it with any MPQ editor. MPQ Master, WinMPQ, and xdep crash when I try to use them with that map.

Am I editing the right part in the picture below? This is my first time using this.

Just something I'd like to mention is that restoring maps is usually to build my own knowledge for vulnerabilities with RPG maps. That wasn't the case with this (TD != RPG) until I ran into problems. I figured the MPQ editors crashed due to header corruption. Was I wrong?

Yup, header corruption is useless. Most MPQ editors automatically bypass it.

EDIT: I am able to open the original map and get no crashes. Something is wrong on your end. Update your programs.

Updated my programs and deprotected it. Most of the imported files didn't go with it...

Thank-you for your time 3ICE.

You need a name breaker for that. (listfile reconstruction)
