yarolegovich vs jackpal version of Android terminal — Which is better?

Unread post by 3ICE »

I spent an hour comparing the two before making my decision.

Both:
+ No ads
+ Terminal Emulation is perfect (even up arrow and copy-pasting via CTRL+C/V works with external keyboard)
+ Same core settings (font, color, alt and fn keys, input methods, su location, initially executed command(s), but no bashrc)
+ Same help page (opens in browser, written by jackpal)

yarolegovich Material Terminal:
- 4k 5-stars, 5k total (4.56), 300k users
+ Material design principles followed
- In-app purchases (but no features locked behind them, so just a donation)
- Two (media, IAP) permissions required
+ Notification can be closed
- Difficult to close window (cannot from the dropdown, can on the right)
- Nag screens: Asks for rating on ~fifth launch (Yes/No/Later) and donation on third launch (1$/3$/5$) with no close button (back button / clicking outside the modal dialog window works for closing it)
+ Easily accessible history, persistent between runs (Though it covers text while open and is saved in strange file format)
- Temporary visual artifact upon minimizing the app (gray rectangle top left corner)
- Install size: 5 MB

jackpal Terminal Emulator for Android:
+ 100k 5-stars, 113k total (4.4), 30M users
+ Original
+ Free, no advertisements, no IAP / payment requirements or offers
+ Only one (media) permission required
- Persistent notification offers no functionality other than switching back to the terminal
+ Windows can also be closed from the dropdown on the left
+ No nag screens
- No history (history command is not persistent between launches, and there's no cat ~/.bash_history either)
+ Install size: 1 MB

p.s.: Rating data (Stars, Total, Average):
