Why not attach it to the post?
Or you could upload it to imageshack, tinypic, photobucket, etc...

You can't. You need to upload them to the internet.
Learn how networking works, because understanding internet is very important.

Well, you must. When a file is stored on your computer, only you can see or access it. If you try linking to it with

Code: Select all

you will get:
A broken image! Why is that? Because other people also have their C:\ drive, but with different files! Say a user called joe sees this post and accidentally has a screenshot.jpg in their docs. He will see HIS screenshot and not yours. Only imagelinks beginning with "http://" are going to work. (No, you can't do http://C:\Documents and ...)

In order to share a file with other users on the web, that data must be available from a public server (Like your website, my website, a free-image-hosting-site, etc) for download by visitors who see the .

To upload:
 • Visit www.google.com
 • Type in free image hosting
 • Pick a site that you think will be around for a few years+.
 • Visit the site you picked and follow the instructions (Usually there is a button: and then another one labeled submit. Your computer then sends the image to the website you are uploading to, and in return you get a link to your image which is now available online.)
 • Use that URL when you want to link to your image.
You can upload any kind of file, even executables, zips, presentations, spreadsheets, whatever, to the internet, but not to an image-hosting site. You need a file-hosting site for those. box.net is quite cool. rapidshare.com used to be great but not anymore.
