3ICE and mapping in Starcraft II

I just posted this on the battle.net forums. (A slightly different version, actually.)

If I make any maps it will be when Heart of the Swarm comes out. I already created my trigger libraries and learned all about the new features of the editor, but I'm still waiting on Blizzard to fix SC2's popularity system and stop this stagnation before I do anything really productive.

There is a serious lack of new custom maps coming out. Especially here in Europe. And I believe the reason for that is:
Blizzard alienated modders.

Half of them left because they found the editor too powerful (hard to get anything done in a timely manner) and the other half left because their maps never got played. So that leaves...
100%-50%-50%=0 map makers. Great...

My wishlist for HotS:
  • Flush the popularity system down the drain. Bring back the system that worked so well for map makers in WC3. Or give us an alternative that works better.
  • Get rid of region lock, let us publish our maps to all regions without using workarounds such as giving the maps to other people and having them publish our work. And more importantly; let us play there!
  • Stop censoring maps.
  • LAN? Okay maybe we can forget LAN...
  • Unlimited or at least more than 3 cliff levels.
  • Support clans.
  • Give us unlimited chat channels and don't punish us fast typers by deleting our messages from the input box.

I have to give my map to others for it to be hosted. Same with alot of people. Most people cant host and dont have access to someone who can, therefore their maps never get played.

But how is that relevant to this topic, "problems with HotS"?

Hosting is actually improved in HotS, because Battle.net 2.0 (would) host your map for you. The problem is that nobody knows about those hosted games because they never get started. Only page 1 (most popular) maps have a chance.

About the issue you are having, the reason why you posted here. I am also curious what your thought process was, the root of any misunderstanding always interests me.

"let us publish our maps to all regions without using workarounds such as giving the maps to other people and having them publish our work."

I thought you were referring to hosting in general on b.net, and I cant host games without opening ports which I tried to do but it didn't work, therefore I referred to the fact that many people have the same problem as me, so when they make their maps they have to give the map to someone else to be able to host it.
